A physical disk in the BD-ROM drive will play just fine.  The ripped file--if launched by Win7's Movies library--has the funny playback.  The very same ripped file will play just fine in TMT3 if you close down Media Center and simply open the file in TMT3.  That's why I think there's a problem with the way Windows Media Center hands the file to TMT3, rather than with TMT3 itself.

The ripped files aren't ISO, since Windows Media Center's such a jerk about recognising and mounting these types of images without third-party help.  The files were ripped using AnyDVDHD in file mode.  (The files play fine if Media Center isn't involved, making bad rips unlikely.)

One other detail I forgot to mention is that this behavior happens on the release candidate of Windows 7 (both X64 and X86 editions, and on two seperate machines).  Since I finally received my retail disk, I'm installing it tonight.  If for some wacky reason the retail release doen't act this way, I'll post and update my ticket with support to let them know it's not worth the Advil.  By the way, thanks for your attention on this.

[Edit] Retail version of Windows 7 Professional X64 displays the same behavior.

Just for clarity the physical disc in the BD-ROM drive plays just fine when launched from Win7 Movie library. Correct?

Jason,

when you work on this topic, it would be great if the menu of the HD DVD Sanata Live at Montreux can be fixed as well (from disk as well as from hd).

Thanks

Claus

HD DVD is basically dead. Though we have no plans to remove existing support, any fix their would likely be coincidental. Sorry for the bad news...

That is correct.  The physical disk in the BD-ROM drive plays without issue.  It's only when trying to launch a ripped folder through MC7's "Movies" option.

Pretty nutty. It should pass the file info identically regardless of whether it's on disc or drive from my understanding of how it works. So if you can isolate TMT and the rip itself out by launching successfully within TMT, and then isolate that Movie Library passes files properly by using the disc there's not much left to isolate...
