I used 5.5  fine (a tad slow was all) on my Canon 4400F for about 6 weeks after applying the patch mentioned in the 06 Feb. message.  Today it will load, but stops after a couple of seconds and shows a Windows will close the program and notify me if a solution becomes available message. What happened ?

I just upgraded to Windows 7 from XP.  After having issues with PhotoStudio 5.5, I contacted AcrSoft about it.  Here is their reply:

Thank you for contacting ArcSoft.

We are sorry but PhotoStudio 5.5 is not compatible with Windows 7. You need to upgrade to PhotoStudio 6. Please visit the following page and download a trial version of PhotoStudio 6:

http://www.arcsoft.com/en-us/software_title.asp?ProductCode=PS6

If you feel satisfied with the trial version and want to purchase an upgrade, please remember to uninstall the trial version before you install the full version after purchase.

We hope this information helps. Please feel free to contact us if you have any other questions.

I guess.  Arcsoft had a fix back in Feb., that lasted for a while.  I don't know if one of the Windows 7 updates messed up that fix or ?  My 5.5 was bundled with a Canon scanner as well.  Arcsoft is my favorite, but there are other programs out there

Well I think that's pretty crummy, I just purchased my CanoScan8800f and already I can't use the ArcSoft Photo program bundled with it with Widows 7, great public relations ASrcSoft.
I'll find an alternative aand steer well clear of ArcSoft in future.

Ok...try this guys.  go to your icon for the program in your start menu.....right click on it and then click properties.  In the box that comes up there are tabs on the top..click the compatability tab...in that tab you'll see the option to "Run this program in capatability mode for..." with a check box next to it..click the check box....there is a drop down menu..pick the previous version of windows you were using that it was working with.  This will make the program run as if it's on your previous version..ie..XP.

Dead We bought our Canon scanner with PhotoStudio software, with a LARGE notice on box that it is compatible with Windows 7. But if we try to use Photostudio we get a large watermark of ArcSoft across the picture.  It looked like good software but do not plan to pay extra for software advertized to come with scanner, but does not work unless buy it again.  No software is worth dealing with a company that has those ethics.  Software is a dynamic industry, and I trust an honest company will  develop equal software that will continue to have support due to loyal customers

Wow! from reading those letters, I am not sure I wish to make a purchase of Photo Studio from a company with some obvious public relations discontent..You guys better get consumer relations dept on the ball or at least wake him/her up!

Be careful with drawn too strong a conclusion from a handful of old posts on a user discussion forum.

The comments are mostly about versions bundled with Canon Scanners advertised as supporting Windows 7. A free patch has long since been available for these from us (and Canon I think) to upgrade to PS6 for Win7 support.

People who bought scanners long ago for XP/Vista that weren't advertised as Win7 compatible might need to pay for an upgrade for the software just like they were willing to pay to upgrade their OS. That's life sometimes with upgrading your OS, or buying old hardware at a discount and hoping you'll get support for your new OS even though it's not listed as supported on the box. I don't think it's unreasonable.
