Topic: ATI 58xx cards now support HD audio Bitstreaming Posted: 23 Sep 2009 at 6:03am |
Dear Arcsoft
New tech has arrived eliminating the requirement for DTS-HD & DD TrueHD enabled soundcards (to a certain degree). The new ATI GFX cards 5850 & 5870 due to be released on the 28 Sept 2009 will have PAP built in to support the HD audio bitstreams, however Cyberlink seem to be the only ones that have made it know that they will be releasing an update to allow for this thru there PDVD9.
A review is available here
Further to this I can't stand Cyberlink's PDVD and I'm an Arcsoft TMT3 user thru and thru, can you tell me please if Arcsoft are working on a project to enable this feature thru the ATI GFX card and in TMT3.
Your honesty would be appreciated

Granted I haven't read it yet, but Bolt is not 192, it's 24/48.

Yeah. The screenshots are kind of unclear. The second one looks to be Transformers judging from the bit of desertlike background but that lists 192/16 for a title that's 48/24 I think.
I'd assume a display issue in PDVD and it's really working (or Anandtech isn't doing their job! :P ) but it would be nice to see an AVR that lists data on its display.

So the card seems to react to settings same as Xonar.
I know of no receiver - I can afford - that indicates bitrate. Some programs such as reclock could. Then again I never used it and post from "posters".
I think they, like many, set their their card 24/192, and it gets upsampled. Just a guess until I read it.

Absolutely NO WAY IN HELL should they be upsampling *BITSTREAMED* sources!!! Bolt and Transformers aren't LPCM, so, setting the card to 192/24 should have ZERO affect on the output to the AVR! Something is definitely wrong there. And I'm 99.9999999% sure it's PDVD9. Big surprise.

It all depends on how thy set PDVD. I'm sure basic principles remain with any player. You can't make an LPCM track bitstream, but you can make a "bitstreaming track" play as lpcm.

I think his point is that if it's bitstreaming, then it can't really be altered in any way since it's bitstreaming. If it were just playing at a higher bitrate but being processed by PDVD they wouldn't (one hopes...) call it bitstreaming.

That's right, Jason, that was my point. They show the receiver right underneath the picture of PDVD showing that it's "bitstreaming". So clearly PDVD has yet another bug. In this case, you can't trust the display. I'm not surprised. I don't even trust the display in TMT. (No offense) But in any case, if it's truly bitstreaming like they claim, then there's a bug.

Well, the Auzentech thread did report incorrect reporting with the PDVD info tab. At this point, anything is possible, but I'm a little confused if they didn't catch on as usually they're through in testing. 192 is available in only 2 channel DTS HD ? And it's 16 bitrate, but the AVR reports bitstreaming which is possible in 2 channel. It's confusing as to the market, and not being privey, ASUS should be informing us of upcoming, new possibilites or upgrades with the Xonar.
The htpc crowd is growing but microscopic compared to stand alone. I really don't want to spend more but the excitement is there.
