Hi,

I have TMT2 (latest update .131), I want to select HDMI audio. But HDMI audio is not available in the list at the audio setup.
Does anyone know why?

I have a Shuttle barebone with ATI Radeo HD 2600 Pro graphics card, running WinXP (latest SP and updates). The graphics card is connected with DVI-HDMI converter to my AV receiver.
The onboard sound is disabled in the BIOS. I have installed the ATI Radion HDMI audio driver. Windows sounds, mp3 are playing fine (all stereo).

When using TMT2 and setting SPDIF, I can hear stereo sound. All DD5.1 sound seems to be converterd to stereo. The TrueHD sounds only creates "ticks".

According to the TMT2 manual it should be possible to get a HDMI option for audio setting: Premium audio for BD. But I don't see it....

Thanks for your help.
Dre

It's been awhile since I used TMT2 and that was .126.

I don't remember a hdmi option - I used 5.1 or 7.1 when connected by hdmi.

The correct setting in your case is the number of speakers, so 2 Channels, 5.1 Channels or 7.1 Channels depending on your setup.

Thanks, I tried that, but without succes. In my case I have set to 5.1 channels, but still the sound through the HDMI cable to my AV-receiver is detected as stereo.

Last night I deinstalled TMT2 and installed the trial version of TMT3 Platinum. In the audio settings I can select HDMI audio now. But the trial version is not able to play Dolby sound (due to licence agreements or something like that). So, it only plays LPCM and my AV-receiver still detects stereo.
Too bad, but I still couldn't test TMT3 and the Dolby sound through HDMI.

Any ideas or suggestions?
Thanks!

Is Windows set to 5.1 sound? Is the Windows sound testing giving you discrete 5.1 sound through your AVR?

Selecting "HDMI" is a red herring. It's just SPDIF and generally is not what you want if your goal is 5.1 audio. Selecting "HDMI" will result in 2 channel just like selecting SPDIF for HD formats.

Thumbs%20UpThanks for your answer. This is interesting, you know. I didn't realize and forgot the windows settings. Ermm I'll check that.

But as you assume, my goal is to play the HD sound, like DTS-MA, TrueHD. And you can't play them through SPDIF as you mention. So, I need the HDMI audio.

Reading the Arcsoft website, I found this at TMT3 Platinum product information:

Support HDMI 1.3 Pass-through Technology for Lossless 7.1 Channel Audio Output*
With DTS-HD Premium Audio Output via HDMI 1.3, TotalMedia Theatre 3 provides full high-definition audio digital output, enabling lossless audio such as DTS-HD Master Audio, Dolby TrueHD, and Dolby Digital Plus, to be transferred to the AV receivers for high-fidelity sounds - up to 192 kHz sampling frequency and 24-bit audio resolution, offering exceptional audio experience.

*A compatible NVIDIA graphic card with the latest driver supporting CUDA installed are required

That means that if I
- upgrade to TMT3, and
- buy a compatible NVIDIA card
my problem would be solved?

If yes, can you advise?
I'm willing to spend some money on this, no problem.

Please note: I do not have an additional audio card and the motherboard onboard audio is disabled.
Thanks for a reply.

You're really hung up on this HDMI audio setting name. LOL

The 2, 5.1, and 7.1 selections fully support audio over an HDMI connection. Most people are running exactly that with their surround sound AVRs. (note Davidleeds comment above.) In TMT3, choosing the "HDMI" setting is actually a BAD choice--you want 2, 5.1, or 7.1 depending on your hardware in TMT3 also. This is how I run TMT on the test systems here with an AVR generally.

If you're having a problem with 2, 5.1, or 7.1 options, having an "HDMI" option to choose from isn't going to fix anything.

Hopefully that's all clear.

The problem you're experiencing is likely system related, not related to choosing (or having) an HDMI setting in TMT. The correct setting in TMT2 or TMT3 for you will be "5.1 Channels".

The HDMI-Passthrough option is a special option for the ASUS Xonar HDAV sound card. That's it. It has nothing to do with being able to get 5.1 or 7.1 out vs 2 stereo. What it does is give you full bitrate audio for certain discs and allow the AVR to do the decoding rather than the software. For the average user, this won't mean much. (For example, I can't even tell the difference.) There's some technical advantages, but I can safely say that if you don't understand it all going in, it probably isn't going to matter much to you and you might want to stick to the basics to start with. Smile

I think I understand, now...

I'll check the ATI audio HDMI driver and window settings, comming with the HD 2600 Pro. I can't remember I have seen any settings there...
I just purchased TMT3. I'll try TMT3 with 5.1 (in my case) and see what kind of audio comes through to the AV-receiver.

Thanks again, I'll post the results.

Wait, your HDMI out solution is a 2600 Pro? That's doesn't support 5.1+ channel audio, does it?

Windows audio manager shouldn't be offering it either.

You need a 4xxx series card I believe for that.
