Topic: WINDOWS 7, WEBCAM COMPANION, SONY VAIO Posted: 28 May 2010 at 5:08am |
So here's the deal:
Sony vaio VGNNW125J with vista, built-in webcam, webcam companion software, then a upgrade to windows 7.
Webcam working great!
windows 7 upgrade... webcam can't connect!
Sony tech support and geeksquad are both saying to restore system to factory settings!
This seems drastic, plus i actually like windows 7!
So, is there a software for my webcam that actually is windows 7 compatible?
And who else is having this problem, because i know i'm not the only one. Any REAL solutions thus far?

i have same problem, i think Sony fill your pc with bloatware that you cannot remove, i cannot even delete wecam companion, there is no option to do so on the Vaio.
Sucks cannot use my webcam now, no one here seems to have an answer.
I just want Arcsoft software off my pc but I cannot remove it - just not right when software companies do that, what right do they have. I guess they pay Sony a lot of money to do this, at least they could ensure the program works

We don't do the system integration at all. Sony does all that. We just sell them a copy of the software. If uninstall has been disabled, that's Sony's decision.

Yeah! I'm mad at sony because they sold me a product with the upgrade to windows 7, but failed to make sure that all the of software was actually compatible and they don't offer a driver to fix the issue. I don't think arcsoft is to blame, but I was hoping they had some sort of solution... Perhaps if i get the webcam companion 3, the webcam will work again? I don't want to uninstall my webcam companion - i just want the webcam to actually work when i use the program! Also, I did uninstall, then reinstall the program successfully while trying to fix the issue, so i'm not sure why it didn't work for you? So far, i'm being told that I need to restore my system back to factory settings - which seems quite drastic so i haven't resorted to that - yet. I don't want to go back to windows vista, either.

Update - I installed the new version - webcam companion 3, thinking it would work since it is windows 7 compatible, but it still says the webcam is not connected....

Why would Sony force people to have a program that cannot be uninstalled without taking payment from the said Software company, it makes no sense. Sorry Jason I just do not believe you. Perhaps you could actually help with the problem, Sony have said to me that I have to restore my system, which I do not want to do, I have made lots of changes installed programs. To do that all over again would be a real pain.
And no doubt it would happen again, can anyone advise how to get Arcsoft programs off my Vaio? After all I did not ask for them, seriously this should be illegal whoever is at fault Sony or Arcsoft. If you do not want a program that is messing up your system you should be able to uninstall it.
I think I could delete it from the registry but have no idea about such complicated stuff

I am having the same problem with an MSI A6000 laptop. Webcam worked fine from last November until about a week ago when Windows automatically updated the drivers for the webcam. Since then I am getting a message that there is an error with the webcam, a black screen, no picture on both Webcam Companion and Skype. The new drivers have arcsoft in the name.

Why would uninstalling arcsoft solve the problem? the webcam is not connected correctly and it doesnt work in any programs - webcam companion, skype, etc.

Has anyone actually come to a solution for this? And has anyone resorted to restoring to factory settings? because it seems as though that is my last resort but I don't want to go through with it unless I KNOW it will work

I never said anything about needing to pay us to resolve the problem. That will not resolve the problem. I said we aren't involved with any decision Sony may have made to allow/disallow uninstallation of our products and we have no solution for it at all--you'll need to work with Sony on a solution. I'm not even aware of whether or not they truly made such a decision--it seems odd.
