I've been following this for a while and searching the internet for a resolution to this G33 issue.  I'm up to TMT version 2.xx.130 and still - Failed to Utilize Overlay...

I also am using the "Japanese Beta Driver" solution, but it's a PITA and the playback is kinda tear-y and jumpy.

Any word on whether there is or will (ever) be a fix for this issue?  Will this setup work with TMT3?  I'm not all that exicted about paying for an "upgrade" to get something that was supposed to work in the first place.

Shuttle SG33G5M Deluxe
Onboard HDMI Intel G33 graphics (drivers updated regularly)
Vista Ultimate 32-bit
(it's a problem in XPMCE/Vista32/Vista64 - I've tried them all)

this is something very similar to my issue.

I have Intel G45 motherboard (Asus P5Q-EM). I bought sound card Asus HDAV1.3 Deluxe which was come with TMT. I liked that player very much, but I cant play any BD disk from harddrive, cause it displays only black screen. Audio seems to be OK.

I have latest version of TMT (Xonar edition) which is 126. It happens with previous version (125) too. I have Vista x64 Ultimate installed.

The trick with Japanese ax files worked for me, but these files almost 5 times smaller than original ones, so I guess there are some drawbacks of using them..

I can provide any additional info, hope this will help to finally resolve that issue.

Thanks

PS. I have latest Intel drivers, as well as Xonar drivers.

This was the Black Screen with VXXX & Intel G33 on Blu-Ray thread but I've updated the title to reflect the "new" error message.

Upgraded to V128 - Instead of the "Black Screen" during playback I now get an error message saying "Failed to utilise video overlay in the graphics card, please update your graphics card driver.  If the problem still exists after the graphics card driver is updated, your graphics card may not support video overlay.  Please contact your graphics card manufacturer."

The fix is the same - swap the two AX files out for the old Japanese Trial ones and it works fine.

I'll report it again to support.

Nathan

PS - I have the latest Intel Drivers.

With the new (current) AX files the disk plays plays fine (you hear sound etc) but you just can't see anything (eg just a black screen) - no video, no overlay info in the right upper corner etc (but you do see the green overlay in the top left corner).  You can resize the player, see the play bars etc but just no video...  You can tell if TMT hangs as the sound stops, the controls become unresponse etc etc..

I thought you couldn't use the new (current) AX files at all? I thought it was just a black screen?

Thanks Jason,
I tried various combo's with DEP on / off and with Running as admin and it made no difference (unless there are other settngs to try?).

FYI - As an aside, I also found that when using the new AX files that TMT sould sometimes hang yet it is fine with the old ones.  I don't know if this is only with V126

Have you tried adjusting the DEP settings that popped up as a solution in other threads after the release of 125?

Thanks Jason - FYI, I did a clean install just the other day (failling hard disk) and it was exactly the same problem and solution.

Black screen bug is being actively investigated, but no progress so far in recreating it consistently or figuring out what is the common denominator between systems that suffer from this problem semi-permanently. (We do know that most of them can be fixed by reinstall of the OS, but that's obviously something we can't recommend as a solution.) While researching it, we have resolved several situations that also lead to the same situation, but since it still appears for users in 125 we know there's more to it.
