  • Does Portrait+ allow softening other skin visible in the picture outside of the facial area?

    Yes. Portrait+ can automatically soften all skin detected in the photo. You can also manually adjust the affected skin area using the Adjust Skin Area feature .

  • How does Portrait+ work with Adobe Photoshop Lightroom?

    Right-click on the imported photo in Lightroom, and then select Edit In > ArcSoft Portrait+ to retouch the photo in Portrait+.

    Note: Lightroom 3.0 or later is required.

  • How do I activate the program?

    Once the program is launched, enter the Licensed Email/Activation Code, and then click Activate. You can also click this link To remove the watermark, buy the software now in the program title bar to get it activated.

  • What language does the program support?

    It supports 8 languages including French, German, Spanish, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and English.

    Tip: The first version for Portrait+ 3.0 doesn't support the international languages yet. It will be added in the next update.

  • How to get started?

    Click the Select Photos button to open one or multiple photos. You can also click the Select Folder button to import photos in the folder and all its subfolders.

    Tip: For the best result, use a photo with a face forward shot.

  • Are there any restrictions for photos?

    Yes, the maximum supported photo resolution of Portrait+ is 37 megapixels and the minimum is 0.25 megapixels.

  • What file format does the program support for importing and exporting?

    For importing, Portrait+ supports JPG/TIFF/PNG/BMP format. For exporting, the JPG/TIFF output format is supported.

  • What is the quickest way to adjust a photo?

    Portait+3.0 includes 8 initial Preset Effects. To rapidly retouch a photo, you just need to click one of the effects, and it will be applied to the photo you are previewing.


  • Can I edit a photo according to my customized preferences?

    Certainly, click the Edit button to go to the Edit panel, which includes three categories (Skin Clear, Cleanup, and Makeup), then choose to customize your photo.

  • How can I quickly batch edit imported photos?

    After choosing a Preset or getting a satisfactory result by custom editing, click the Apply to All button. Then the current results can be applied to all imported photos so that the whole set is retouched as a group.

    Tip: Only those photos on which faces have been identified will be edited.


  • Can I create my own preset?

    Yes. To conveniently use the effect again in the future, click the button "Save as Preset" to save the effect as a custom preset.

  • Can I modify the skin tone of a photo?

    Yes. Portrait+ 3.0 supports skin tone modification automatically. Simply click the button "Change Skin Tone" , and choose the skin tone you like, then the program will automatically change the tone of the skin area it recognizes in a photo.

  • Can I cancel a Preset?

    Only Custom Preset can be cancelled. Select the preset you want to delete and click the Delete icon to cancel it. The Default Preset cannot be cancelled.

  • What are key facial points?

    Key facial points allow for a more accurate result. Click the Adjust key points button at the bottom of the screen to access the Adjust Key Points screen. On this screen, you'll find the facial points of the original photo displayed on the left. The faces detected will be marked with rectangle boxes. If needed, drag the facial points around the eyes, eyebrows, nose, and mouth.


  • How many faces in a photo can be recognized by Portrait+?

    Portrait+ can detect more than 20 faces in a photo. Once detected, the faces are listed as thumbnails on the bottom left of the preview screen. When you're ready to retouch a face, click the thumbnail to view the face details.

  • If I don't want to touch-up a face, what do I do?

    If you don't want to touch-up a face in a photo, please first click the Lock Face button. The faces detected are marked with rectangle boxes. Click the Lock the face to keep the face as is icon on the top right of the box to cancel the selection. Its face thumbnail will become grey. If you want to retouch this face again, click the Unlock the face to include the current preset effect icon. The face thumbnail will then turn bright.


  • I've already cancelled the face selection but it is still cleansed?

    The cleanse function is based on the skin area detected in the photo. Sometimes, the skin color of this face is similar with others. The program cannot tell whoever the specific face area belongs to. Thus, it will still process the cleanse effect even though you've already cancelled the face selection. If you do not want to apply the cleanse effect to this face, you can click the Adjust Skin Area icon to erase the face area that you do not want to process.

  • Can I apply different makeovers to other faces in a photo?

    No, currently you cannot.

  • How do I remove the spots?

    You can click the Blemish Removal tool to remove the imperfections.

    Note: you can't perform other operations simultaneously.

  • Can I modify the skin area of the portrait?

    Yes. Portrait+ will automatically detect the skin area in the photo. If you want to adjust it, please click the Adjust Skin Area icon. You'll find that the skin area detected is masked out. Use the Brush Tool and the Erase Tool to add or erase the skin area.

    Note Don't worry about the eyebrows, eyes and mouth area as the program will not apply the cleanse feature to these area.

  • How do I view the before and after comparison?

    Click the View Before and After icon to compare the effect before and after the makeover.

  • How do I delete photos?

    You can move the cursor to the photo thumbnail you'd like to remove, and then click the Delete icon. You can also press the Delete key to delete it. Click the Remove all button in the menu to delete all the imported photos.

    Note Deleting photos from Portrait+ will not remove them from your computer.

  • How do I export the modified photo?

    Click Export All the photos to save the modified photo to your hard drive. On the Export Photos screen, choose the desired save path, image quality and image size. Click Start to begin the exporting process.

  • Can I customize the picture quality?

    Yes. On the Export Photos screen, select Custom from the Quality drop-down list. Drag the slider or set the value to change the picture quality.

  • How do I export multiple modified photos with one photo in Portrait+3.0?

    You can select Add Export Preset on the Export screen. Once you add a preset, it will apply to all the output photos. It will export a modified photo. Compared to Portrait+2.0, Portrait+3.0 only supports editing a single photo in the main screen of the program. It no longer supports directly exporting multiple photos.

  • Can I customize the file name for the exported photo?

    Yes, the program will set the original file name as the default name when you export. If you want to define your own file name, enter the name in the "Rename to" text box, then the system will automatically batch rename the files.

  • How do I select the pictures from the output?

    Portrait+ has a user-friendly results comparison function which allows you to choose the best photos from the final results. Once the export process begins, you can click Show Result or double-click the photo thumbnail in the Export List to compare the original picture with the retouched one in details. If you are not satisfied with the result, you can just click the Trash icon to delete it.

  • What are the correct key point positions for adjusting facial points?

    Refer to the demo on the right panel when adjusting key points. As shown in the demo, a relevant point is blinking in red and blue. Move the key point to the corresponding position. The following describes the location of the key points:

    Eyebrow: The three key points of the eyebrow are located respectively on the brow, brow ridge, and the tip of the brow. They are all in the middle of the upper and lower margin of the eyebrow.

    Eye: The left and right points are usually located in the position where the eyelids meet. It's better to adjust the eye liner close to the eyelids.

    Face: The left and right points are located at the edge of the cheek near each earlobe.

    Lip: The left and right points are located at the lip edge. The other four points are in the center of the upper and lower lips.

  • How do I activate the application?

    Yes, the maximum supported photo resolution of Portrait+ is 8000×8000 and the minimum is 480×480.

  • What file formats does the program support for importing and exporting?

    For importing, Portrait+ supports JPG and TIFF format. For exporting, the JPG format is supported.

  • What is the quickest way to adjust a photo?

    Click a pre-set template checkbox in the right panel to quickly retouch a photo.


  • How do I preview, apply or cancel a pre-set style?

    1. To preview, apply, or cancel a pre-set style, click Select Styles  at the top of the screen. A panel of styles displays on the right.

    2. To preview a style, click the style name to see the effect (not the checkbox).

    3. To apply a style, check the desired style checkboxes and click Export Photos  . Select the export settings and click the Start  button.

    4. To cancel an effect, simply uncheck the checkbox.

  • Can I create my own template?

    Yes. Click the Add new style  icon in the Custom Styles category to create your own template. You can also customize the makeover based on the pre-set template. Select the desired style from the Choose a pre-set template drop-down list and adjust the settings for the skin, face, eyes, and lips. At the same time, you can preview the effect in the current photo. Click Save  to save this style.

  • How do I edit a style in the Custom Styles category?

    Select a style in the Custom Styles category. Click the Edit  icon to make the adjustment.


  • Can I remove a style?

    Only styles in the Custom Styles category can be removed. Select the style you want to delete and click the Delete  icon to remove it. Styles in the Pre-set Styles category cannot be removed.


  • What are key facial points?

  • Can I apply different makeovers to other faces in a photo?

    No, currently you cannot.

  • How do I view the before and after comparison?

    Click the Before|After  icon to compare the effect before and after the makeover.


  • How do I delete photos?

    Click the Trash  icon on the top right of the preview area to delete the current photo. You can also press the Delete key to delete it. Click the Remove All  button to delete all the imported photos.

    Note: Deleting photos from Portrait+ will not remove them from your computer.

  • How do I export the modified photo?

    Click Export Photos  to save the modified photo to your hard drive. On the Export Photos screen, choose the desired save path, image quality and image size. Click Start to begin the exporting process.

  • What is the program report and how do I access it?

    The report function allows you to view all editing steps you have performed, such as importing and exporting photos, applying styles, and the time it took. Click Report  to view the report. Click Open Folder  to view the saved photos and the corresponding report.

  • How do I select the best pictures when I output multiple styles at once?

    Portrait+ has a user-friendly results comparison function which allows you to choose the best photos from the final results. Once the export process begins, you can click Show Result  to compare the original picture with the retouched version. If you are not satisfied with the result, you can just click the Trash  icon to delete it.
