Hello!

Is it possible to use the TMT5 Arcsoft Codec in MCE for example? DirectShowFilterTweaker does'nt show it up. Would be cool to have this great codec for LiveTV!

Greetings from Austria,
Winnie

We do not support using our codecs outside our player.

That was clear for me, since the codec does not show up in other programs.
Further I do not want any "support".
What I asked was if it is possible to register the codec for common use.
Is this possible or not ???

An answer to that question would consistute "support" for unsupported usage. Hope the reason for the (non) answer is clear now.

To get this "answer" from the official Arcsoft-Support would be clear for me. So I asked this in the Forum.
But maybye thats no difference anyway ...
Poor, for a piece of software that costs the price of a standalone bd-player.
By the way, the PDVD-Codec is free to the whole system (If purchased ...). But you know: Xonar ...

Someone might think, building a HTPC should be easy these days. What a pity that fast, silent, powersaving hardware still requires software to run ...

Right. I was saving you the trouble of getting a non-answer from customer service. Another forum user could still come along and offer more info one way or the other.

It's sort of counterintuititve, but software players should remain more expensive than hardware players despite not having phyical production costs. Hardware manufacturing costs continually drop while software maintainence costs to support ever-changing PC hardware and standards persist.

Sorry, but I can't agree at all. Just for example: In the EU we have a 2year warranty on hardware-products. And that costs money. Never heard of warranty for software. And thats the point: If such a warranty would exist, we would not have to f@#€!ck around with so many pieces of hellfreezing crappy software.

Not sure how warranties are in any way comparable to maintainence costs but whatever--agree to disagree.

Such a warranty would be mostly irrelevent or impossible on a PC. If, say TMT conflicts with Norton AntiVirus how do you determine which appliation you can exercise your warranty on? PCs are an inherently unstable platform, but even given that you'd be amazed at how stable software can be on a fixed platform. Our OEM HTPC business is remarkably trouble free despite vastly outnumbering retail customers. Most of the problems come in from compatability with unique configurations on retail customer systems and many problems that initially look like application performance issues turn out to be caused by system level events. But the applications always take the brunt of the criticism. Just the nature of the beast...

Are people upset their illegal torrents aren't played well by a legal player?
